On the 6th of October 2023, the Shesha board game team in partnership with Staruts skills center visited Leretholi Polytechnic in Maseru, Lesotho. Students from the Tshwane University of Technology, University of Johannesburg and Witwatersrand were representing South Africa a Match against the Basotho for M2000 (R2000).

“Shesha is a South African Black owned board game owned by the CEO of the company named Sipho Maboshego,” explained Kevin Phehla, Assistant Manager.

On the 3rd day of the all-expenses paid tour in Lesotho, visited the Leretholi Polytechnic for a friendly game.

Phehla added, “One of our fundamental objectives behind the game is to ensure that we kill this stereotype thinking of students at the point that they must be stuck to the books. Now here’s an extracurricular activity that aims that psychologically we enhance the brain of the child.”

The South African representatives came from various student accommodations under the Staruts accommodation projects namely the Little Manhattan, La Jazz, Marshall yards and Gezina residences. They had won matches on their respective residences for a price which is a tour to Lesotho from the 4th to the 7th of October.

Shesha seems to have proven themselves to be action orientated their slogan is “connecting the world” and they literally did.

Their first stop, our Neighbours Lesotho. Who knows the next? Maybe Dubai will be the next destination. Shesha consists of terms from all over the world, it is merely an edutainment game.

Players get to see words, describe them giving clues and teammates have to think on the spot what the description could be referring to. The game challenges players to work well as teams as well as think on the spot.

The Basotho students accepted Shesha with a lot of gratitude and enthusiasm. Excitement was all over as they competed and won a part of the price money. They enjoyed some refreshments and made South African friends. Thus, apparently connecting the world.

Xolani Mahlangu, Marketing Manager, said that he was happy students came in their numbers and they got a different sense of Lesotho, Students were excited, and socials were buzzing throughout. Shesha 3, 2, 1 Go!
