With all South Africa's societal issues, hunger, and high unemployment rates. It is admirable to come across young people who know their rights and have no sense of entitlement. Simiso Mngomezulu (23) is the creator of Mreva Media, a photography and filmmaking company.

His story is an inspirational one, at the age of 19 in 2018, he started his media journey. When he was still a high school student, he used his spare time to self-equip himself with camera operating skills and software’s for editing. He did most of his learning virtually on YouTube. He was born and bred in Nembe situated in Mandeni, where he said that he grew up not knowing of any photographer.

His organisation captures both still and moving images for any given need. So far, his firm employs 5 workers of any gender. He has worked through studying other people's work and utilising social media. He began as a street photographer at a nearby mall, and his practise has resulted in the high-quality work he produces now.

That is the beginning of his media entrepreneur career. He has faced a lot of challenges that has learnt to deal with accordingly, the first one being time. Some clients do not respect scheduled times, they fail to stick to it, he said.

He added that there are glitches with payment times such that they are not only a bit underpaid, but clients take their time to remunerate them.

What inspired his company name was his own nickname “Mreva’’ slang for Reverend, which he got because he used to motivate his uncles to go to church. Although some call him Mreva, some refer to him by his self-given nick name ‘’Umshuthi ongadumile’’ meaning an unpopular photographer.

He said that he wanted his work to shout for itself before he could even take credit.

He is a generous young businessman; he has an initiative to give back to his community because they are the main supporters of his work. He donates school shoes to local pupils which is helpful to kids from needy environments.

Indirectly he motivates pupils to feel equal and continue attending school and no excuses. : Give yourself to learn, know how to do things,’’ those were the words of advice for all potential media entrepreneurs from Simiso.
